to prefer;
prefiero esperar aquí I'd rather wait here, I'd prefer to wait here;
preferido algo A algo to prefer sth to sth;
prefiero que te quedes I'd rather you stayed, I prefer you to stay
preferido,-a adjetivo & sustantivo masculino y femenino favourite, US favorite
preferir verbo transitivo to prefer: prefiero quedarme en casa, I'd rather stay at home
To prefer aparece en distintas construcciones. Puede llevar un sustantivo ( I prefer coffee), un infinitivo con to ( I prefer to swim) o un gerundio ( I prefer swimming). Cuando comparas dos cosas, puede llevar un sustantivo más to más otro sustantivo ( I prefer coffee to tea), un gerundio más to más otro gerundio ( I prefer swimming to running) o un infinitivo con to más rather than más otro infinitivo sin to o un gerundio: I prefer to swim rather than run o I prefer to swim rather than running.
Las estructuras con infinitivo expresan preferencias específicas y muchas veces se introducen con would: I would prefer to... Si existe complemento directo, entonces sólo se puede emplear el infinitivo con to: I would prefer you to... Preferiría que tú...
También puedes emplear would rather ( would para todas las personas) más el infinitivo sin to: I would rather go home. Preferiría irme a casa. Si existe complemento directo, el verbo aparece en pasado simple: I would rather you went home. Preferiría que te fueras a casa.

12 Ronaldo, Cristiano
(Dos Santos Aveiro)(1985-)Portuguese soccer player ranked as one of top professional players in the world. Born in Funchal, Madeira, in 1985, Ronaldo trained from the early age of eight with amateur Youth Clubs. In 2001, he joined one of the top professional futebol clubs of Portugal, Sporting CP, and in 2002, he was signed by the legendary British professional team, Manchester United. His salary was 12.24 million pounds sterling, a world record for a player of his youth. Although he preferred to wear the number "28," his Sporting CP number, his coach insisted that Ronaldo wear the legendary "7," the number of top British players who preceded him on the team, including George Best and David Beckham. Greatly in demand, Ronaldo was approached by Real Madrid, based in Spain, which tried several times in vain, using enormous salary pledges, to lure him from Manchester United. In 2007, Ronaldo was signed to a new contract for an immense sum and became the highest paid pro team player in history.Extremely popular but also controversial, this Portuguese player won many awards and scored many goals in many tournaments, all the while accumulating some criticism about rough play and "diving," faking falls in front of umpires to get the other team penalized so that his team could take penalty shots. Some authorities rank Ronaldo as the best soccer player in soccer history, although such a claim is debatable. Still, for Portuguese soccer and for Portugal's place in world soccer, having a player with Ronaldo's talent and accomplishments at such a young age, is a rare phenomenon. -

16 Sciences Po
Name used, even formally, by the Institut des Etudes Politiques de Paris, an autonomous state-funded school of higher education (grand établissement), founded in 1872, and a university in all but name. The undergraduate course at Sciences Po, designed to produce graduates with a solid understanding of the workings of the modern world, is a pluridisciplinary degree covering a range of social sciences, including history, law, politics, economics, sociology, and foreign languages. Many leading French politicians, businessmen and civil servants have degrees from Sciences Po, and the school's increasing success has led to the opening of smaller campuses, offering specialist courses, in Dijon, Poitiers, Menton and Nancy.Sciences Po is one of the top ranked institutes of higher education in France and in Europe, and competition for places is stiff. The school runs joint degree courses with several top international schools, including the universities of Columbia and Georgetown in the USA, and LSE in Great Britain. Many leading French politicians, businessmen and civil servants have degrees from Sciences Po, and the school's increasing success has led to the opening of smaller campuses, offering specialist courses, in Dijon, Poitiers, Menton and Nancy.The official Aeres audit of Sciences Po in 2008 described the institution as being "seen from abroad as a typically French institution, rather difficult to situate and to comprehend." It defined the school's mission as being to train graduates with "knowledge, but also understanding, of society and the world... in short to educate them".The name 'Sciences Po' is also used commonly to refer to Instituts d'Etudes Politiques (IEP) attached to a number of universities.Dictionnaire Français-Anglais.
